It is not new that we should always hydrate well, but in summer, with the heat and perspiration, we lose much more liquid and our body asks for more water. Water is our number one ally for hydration and we must never forget it. But in summer we also want to drink other fresh and delicious things that provide us with many nutrients for the body: the classic juices and smoothies based on fruits and vegetables. As Health Coach Piqui Méndez explains, juice and smoothie are not the same for the body, and both fulfill different functions in our body. “Juices do not have the fiber of food, therefore, they are digested quickly and are an almost instantaneous shot of nutrients for the body and at the same time we make sure to consume a lot of vegetables. When you make them, I recommend that you do not put almost any fruit on them, since, as they do not have fiber, the sugar goes directly into the blood. Juices are less filling than smoothies and could not replace a meal. All fruits and vegetables are good, except avocado, banana and citrus peel. On the other hand, the smoothies have all the whole food, with its fiber as well. That is why they are digested much slower, they give more satiety and drag toxins. In this case, we can add a little more fruit and add other types of food such as nuts, bananas, avocados, milk,” she explains.
